Our nanny is leaving!

C woke me up this morning and said "I have very bad news." My heart raced and I imagined something horrible must have happened to Little T. It was bad news. Our nanny is moving to Concord. Too far away to commute to us, so we need to find another nanny. Much sadness. It fills me with anxiety. Before our current nanny, we had a string of nannies that didn't work out. A couple just didn't work out. A few were awful in a way that's now funny. And we almost lost our current nanny once before, but then she stayed on. But this time I think she's really leaving. Her husband works for FedEx, but says his back can't take lifting packages anymore and found another job with lighter duties.

She gave us the number of another nanny. She sounds good. Little T is not nearly so high maintenance as he was when our nanny started in April. Back then Little T was still functionally an infant. He couldn't feed himself. He couldn't sit up. He wouldn't eat more than 2oz at a time. He cried a lot. The chemo hurt. He had a scary Broviac (central IV line directly to his heart), and a long list of medications that had to be given. A lot of nannies we interviewed just turned pale when we interviewed them, and we knew they weren't up to the job.

Now Little T's a big fat jolly baby with just one medicine that needs to be given when the nanny is here. He's occasionally grumpy and still cries sometimes, but when mama's around, he will laugh and smile. For the right person he'll even smile when I'm not.

So I'm hopeful that finding another nanny won't be the arduous task it has been. Even so I'm anxious about it. I'd be grateful if you'd send me some good nanny finding vibes.

Wow, good luck! I guess we're in the same boat ;) Patri and I need to sit down and discuss what we want before we actually start contacting people, but I did see some promising looking ads on craigslist this morning. Also, a good friend of mine is promoting her little sister if you're game to have a 17yr old stay with you for a few months. I've met her: she's really sweet and has just been helping my friend out with her little boy. Since you live close, depending on how many hours you're looking for we could potentially "split" a nanny ;)
