My dream call

Well it still hasn't quite sunk in yet.  Lauren called me today and invited me to February Team Training at the end of which I'll come home with my dog.   She called me on Thursday to see if I was available (of course!), but said I'd have to wait until December 27th to find out if my [dream] dog was still available. I do have 707 on my caller id, so I'm pretty sure I didn't dream it.  But it sure feels like a dream to me.    I feel incredibly blessed.

I'm surrounded by beautiful photos of dogs, thanks to kind CCI folks.  It's hard to believe Dream Dog is waiting in the Santa Rosa campus right now.  I already know Dream Dog can't mind my awkward jerky movements or I will go home empty-handed.  But I also hope Dream Dog loves my small kids who give huge hugs, and will listen to stories read awkardly, because I plan on taking him or her to my daughter's school to be to read to by children who unlike my daughter are shy about reading.  And I also hope he or she will like to play catch with the kids on "release" even after picking up all kinds of stuff for me.   I hope Dream Dog likes walks.  Some will be actual exercise and some will be an exercise in exploration of every flower in our neighborhood and some will be what you Americans call hikes.  My kids will grow up, but I hope Dream Dog will be forever young at heart.

Dream Dog hopes that you will be accepting, attentive and kind. Dream dog dares to hope that you will love exercise. Dreamdog burns with a preternatural inner fire to please you. Dreamdog is dreaming of you.

It's easy to be accepting and kind to dream dog. Attentive-- I will try my best. I can be extremely focused, but I have two small children that also demand attention and a husband who tries but doesn't always understand. I hope Dream Dog will be patient with me as I figure out how to be a good pack leader. I'm sure I'll be confusing and then correct Dream Dog when DD does the wrong thing, because I wasn't clear what I was telling you to do. Dream Dog, just know that I already love you, even though I don't know your name.

Ahhh I am so happy and I second everything that morrisa said. Before I got my dog and again after, my lovely family reminded me that my dog, too, was waiting for me just as I waited for her. She hopes you will be everything that she wishes for, and you will. I am so excited for you and now, if you are up to it, we must do some serious investigating to find out which dogs are rotating through the February SD Team Training!!! Oh man, oh man, oh man, you don't know HOW MUCH I want to come to graduation!!!

It's hard to believe Dream Dog is waiting for me, though I'm already talking to him or her in my mind. Interesting you use 'her'. :)

Congratulations! What a wonderful early Christmas present...

We were just up at the CCI campus in Santa Rosa last week for our family interview. I think the two dogs that worked with us may be available for team training in Feb - Kenneth (big, goofy, and yellow) and Yonno (smaller, black, and very sweet). We should find out by the first of the year whether our son has been accepted onto the waiting list for a skilled companion dog.

I follow your blog because we have several things in common. I'm a married techie mom of two children, one of whom has special needs.

Welcome Tina! That's so exciting! I hope you get some good news soon! Thanks for some names! Yes at least one dog I remember from my interview at CCI-- Proper graduated at the next Team Training. Sadly the other dog who was also wonderful got released due to ear infections, but according to her puppy raiser is now a wonderful best friend to a little girl.

Hooray!!! How exciting for you!! Do let me know when you get called for Team Training. In general from what I gather the wait seems to be several months shorter for SC.
