Introductions

Welcome! Way past due for some of you I know. I've been meaning to for a while. I've finally had time to sit down and do it. By necessity the intros must be short, but I hope informative. I've separated you into different groups, but of course there's overlap.

Mawrters: Except where otherwise mentioned all these folks are also on the alumni list. frumiousb and I graduated the same year. She moved to Holland. I love her graffiti pictures. marybethorama overlaps with me in Bryn Mawr years, but has a ten-year old now. Eeek owlmoose is a local friend, a librarian who graduated in 95,and is on the list, but I met her through mutual friends and her best friend luvmoose who's an expert on 80's music. tgor's main blog is elsewhere where she blogs mostly about her life as a lawyer. friede is studying for her PHD.pennifer writes about her international travel for her work. chasingtides and batshua are currently going Bryn Mawr. I met both through LJ and should be on the list when they graduate.

Moms and one dad: haddayr has a son with Tourette's Syndrome and also writes a monthly column for the Minnesota Women's Press, tritone(dad) and morrisa (mom) created mirandatime for their daughter, and choiceful has babybabble for her baby son, jpallan is going to college and raising two girls poets_hand writes gentle thoughts.
Moms who don't blog here: jennyrob sometimes blogs tales of her son Sam. charlottesmom has a daughter with a serious heart defect that she blogs about on blogspot. whymommy rides horses, but doesn't blog.

Gardeners/Nature Lovers: plantgirl who unsurprisingly writes about plants and birds, src who writes about her garden, endokam who used to work for science museums and blogged about her trip to SE Asia giandujabird doesn't blog, but is also an avid gardner and a local friend. generalist is a fellow computer geek who loves hiking among other things.

Pagan, local and poly: emberleo writes a lot about paganism. I didn't meet her through Hrafnar, but she goes. dawnd and akienm are married, but also have an extended poly family. firecat is also a fat activist. funcrunch is also vegetarian.
Not pagan, but otherwise all the above: zyxwvut and zahraa are married and interview SF folks in elevators at Baycon.

Singers: arkibet and sunyata__ have both recorded their voices for all to hear on their LJ. koshkalet sings in her church choir.

MUSHers (mostly former like me): I started MUSHing in 1992. evilhat truly is evil. She plots evil schemes online and made me her minion at Excite@Home. cubes scuba dives for shipwrecks. swami_bob photographs and even gets paid for it sometimes. He's one of the tallest people I know married to one of the shortest people I know goldenlily who belly dances. ivpiter gave me my first dragon. esmerel knits. fenodoree fences. lordjulius dances in competitions. tavella is a member of the reality based community. diony teaches self defense and is also a college student. chamois_shimi is a new mom.
MUSHers who also write: space_parasite actually blogs elsewhere. rfrancis also podcasts. inlerah is one of several weyrmates I had who were women playing men. miche_connor and gconnor are married and their cats rule their house. kynn just finished the 2nd edition of his CSS manual, but also writes a lot about politics in his journal annathepiper is busy sending off her novels to various publishers.

I met a_votre_guise through no_pity the disabled community group.
I went to Catholic junior high with yes_justice who writes a lot about politics.

Last, but certainly not least, I'm happily married to castorf

Hello! Have a cup of tea. Do talk amongst yourselves.

Greetings to folks on waterowl's Friends list! For those of you with any connection past or present to PernMUSH, I am the Writer Formerly Known as F'hlan, bronze Tzornth's rider, as well as his daughter Mehlani. Hiya!

And these characters appear in her novels. ;)

Well, not yet they don't. But really only because I haven't figured out what sort of story either F'hlan or Mehlani would fit into once I finish yoinking them out of Pern, and because I've been busy stuffing other former MUSH alts of mine into books first. ;)

OHNOES who let YOU in here!! er uh.

Man. I feel old. F'hlan would have to be what, pushing 80 now? ;)

He's probably sitting around the Lower Caverns at Benden, still getting ogled by Lower Caverns Girls who are now as old as he is. And surrounded by possibly five dozen adorable green firelizards, not to mention three dozen grandchildren.

Regardless, hiya. ;)

Hey, I remember F'lan! I think he impressed a few hatchings before Jerissa.

F'hlan and Tzornth's Impression was as I recall March of 1992. And F'hlan is not to be confused with F'lan of SC--two different riders! I was going to be F'lan, but there was a F'lan on SC already. :)

EEk, no, I'm *WOULD* never compare someone to that F'lan. Erk.

So, a little before me, didn't you hang around with J'rus? Or am I really getting old?
annathepiper
Jul. 10th, 2006 09:49 pm (UTC)
J'rus is a name that I recall, but he wasn't one of F'hlan's immediate cronies. Some of the folks I RPed with on a regular basis were C'loren, K'dahl, R'till, Jehrina, Merla, P'tran, Krystlin, and Kassima!

Wow, I remember all those but K'dahl. :) Cool!

He was brown Cavenath's rider. He Impressed in the same Hatching I did, and at one point wound up being one of my Wingseconds. :)

The rest of my clutchmates were Selene and blue Kendalth, R'till and blue Brandalth, Krystlin and gold Tiamanth, Thryla and brown Monareth, P'ven and blue Tirforth, and Grendel and green Miribeth. I still have the log. :)

I did, as I have heard tell of your LJ presence in passing before. Nice to see you directly, though! :) Hi!

I haven't been scuba diving in years -- not since I moved to Florida, actually, though I did have a marvelous time snorkeling in the Bahamas recently.

These days for fun I build and shoot my own fireworks and go fishing offshore.

Sorry 'bout that! It's funny how images of folks we know long distance stay with us even though they've moved on. But I still remember the first photo I saw of you in a scuba diving outfit. Back then I didn't know that many women who dove. Now for some reason I do even though I don't dive. I've always wanted to learn, but never managed it. I will when the kids are older.

Hey, no problem, I change hobbies like most people change underwear. Sometimes even I lose track of what I'm into this month.

Diving is still high on my interest list, even moreso after the snorkeling reminded me how much I love being in the water. The feeling of freedom is incredible -- it's almost like being weightless, or being able to fly. It's just one of those things that got put aside and has stayed there through inertia more than a lack of interest.

One amusing little tidbit is that diver guy I started dating way back then (that lasted all of about 6 months) became one of my best friends. We've kept in touch through the years, and he's now an airline pilot (twin-engine commuter planes) based in Key West.

I love snorkeling for that feeling of freedom too. I'm not sure if I'll like scuba diving cos of all the equipment. We'll see.

That's cool about diver guy. There does seem to be this overlap between small airplanes and scuba diving. Staking your life on machinery or something.

You live in FL and don't dive? Man! We just got back from 2 weeks diving in the keys - scored most the major wrecks in the north keys. :) If you haven't you should! :)

Yeah, I know it's some beautiful stuff, but I was spoiled by the variety and the fascinating history of New Jersey Wreck Diving. Also even the northern keys are a good 8-10 hour drive from me. For that effort, I'd rather be in a cave (which Florida also has in abundance).

May I say hello too?
*sneaks in and shares virtual tea*

Hello. I'm a friend of inlerah who was on Pern, and I peered over waterowl's shoulder at this strange MUSH thing when she was a senior and I was a frosh. She lived on the other side of the hall and was wise and smart and brilliant and kept our school's state-of-the art Vax alive, replacing tapes and vacuum tubes and punchcards...er...well, it wasn't quite that old.

I'm currently having an embarrassing attack of Final Fantasy fanfiction after playing X. Through this, I ran into owlmoose, whose Hera livejournal icon pinged my Mawtyr Detector.

In real life I'm poking at a PhD in mythology and depth (Jungian) psychology, for the "most obscure major!" win.
