Special K day

Today is Special K's birthday. She's now four. It's hard to believe she's already four. This birthday feels bittersweet to me. With each birthday she grows towards independence which is wonderful and she'll always need me in some capacity. Goodness knows I still need my mother sometimes and I'm a grown woman. And gods I'm glad she's not a baby anymore, (and I can't believe I'm saying this), but sometimes I miss those toddler times. I know some mothers love babies. They love the helplessness. I don't. I mean I love my children. But when she was a baby, I longed for her to grow up a bit faster. I got so tired of carrying her around. I wanted her to talk to me instead of crying. Now I love how she learns more and can understand more about the world, but sometimes she doesn't want my help.

We went to Special K's preschool on Tuesday, because she was star of the week. I watched her interact at preschool. I want to leave this public, because it is her birthday. Let's just say that my girl possesses a high degree social intelligence and at times it scares me a little. Already she knows how to work the teachers there. When I think about dealing with teenager Special K, sometimes my head hurts. Hopefully I will have acquired more wisdom by then, or I'll understand her or myself better.

Happy Birthday to Special K!

I think every birthday is a bit bittersweet, though I agree with you that I couldn't wait for her not to be a baby. Wow was babyhood tough on us both. I actually think that, for me, about age 5 was wonderful. When she hit 1st grade, all hell broke loose with the ADD stuff, and school has been hell ever since. It's so hard to watch your child struggle, something I"m sure you know intimately.

Happy Birthday!
Doesn't feel like four years have passed! I still hope to meet both your little ones some day :)

Happy Birthday to Special K! I know exactly what you mean about little babies vs. toddlers - I love it when you can see toddlers really starting to figure things out. I think the 4-8 years are really great, too, though.

Happy Birthday Special K
Happy Birthday Special K (and Mom).

We're right behind you - some days though it seems like JR is more reluctant to turn 4 than I am to have him turn 4.
