Health problems in me and my cats

This weekend I caught a cold, which has worsened my allergies, and I can barely speak without coughing.  Unfortunately having Mori inside is not good for my allergies.  Sadly Little T may also be allergic.  He's gotten a lot of eczema recently.  He's seeing an allergist in a couple weeks.

Meanwhile Sephi's thyroid results came back this weekend.  Her initial test showed her thyroid level in the gray area. So I plonked down another $70 for a more detailed test.  Upshot of that is her thyroid is on the very high end of normal.  She lost weight so the next tests they'd do would be to look for cancer.  She'd be okay with a chest x-ray, but the abdominal u/s would freak her out and for the same reason she's not a good candidate for chemo.  So unfortunately if she had cancer I wouldn't treat it except to relieve her suffering.  She appears fine now if peeing and a bit more freakazoid than usual.  So I decided to wait and see if by feeding her a bit more, she'll maintain her weight or even gain some back.

And Mori appears to have gotten over his upper respiratory infection but he started hiding -- unusual for him.  I think Little T's new found power of walking scares him.  At least I hope that's the issue.  He's still eating.

Thanks to the kindness of [info]gconnor who took Sephi to the vet for her yearly checkup!! I went too.

Sephi has enlarged thyroid glands and a racing heart. She also lost weight down to 9 4oz from 10lb 6oz. She may have hyperthyroidism. This may explain her nervousness and peeing. She got a full blood test and thyroid test. Her urine tested okay. We find out the results tomorrow.

Mori caught the upper respiratory disease --he's sneezy and has weepy eyes. He's also moving very slowly and sleeping a lot. Fortunately he still seems to be eating and drinking. I called the vet and the tech said as long as he's eating and drinking, he should be okay.

C is slowly getting better. He got out of bed for 3 hours yesterday, which was too much. I keep telling him to go back to bed.

I may have mentioned C has been sick for a long time over 3 weeks. He was just diagnosed with pneumonia.

Ironically there's a possibility my cat Mori may also have the cat equivalent of pneumonia. We must wait and see.

Little T makes a stand

Little T stood for the first time today. Being him, he wanted to look at a car. He's been trying to rise from his knees to standing for a couple weeks now. He bounced up and down, up and down. Today was a slow graceful rise.

But this also came at the exact same time as my neighbor came to tell us my cats have started pooing in her yard. She told us they have been for the past three weeks. C has put out for a litter box for them. Our neighbor tried cat repellent. I hope the litter box works, because if it doesn't I'm not sure what we'll do.

Sock kills

[info]gconnor has Sophie, Killer of Socks Well, our cats are also brave sock killers. They hunt down socks from our neighbours and bring to them to our back porch. Right now their trophies include a blue baby sock, a man's white athletic sock and a woman's black sock. I have no idea where they came from. And they remain on our mat. I can't match my cats' bravery. I hesitate to knock on a neighbour's door, sock in hand, and say "Excuse me, but I think my cats might have stolen your sock. Does this sock belong to you?"

I wonder how the cats steal these socks. Do our neighbours hang socks out to dry and the cats steal from the line? Do the cats sidle into the house all plantative and folorn and while the neighbours' backs are turned, my cats sneak socks? Do the cats creep into the house on little cat feet and whisk away socks? The cats aren't saying.

Sock, Library visit & Word Count

There's a wool sock on our back porch. It's probably a gift that the cats brought us. I know that Mori really really loves wool to the point where he ruined a brand new cashmere coat a boyfriend bought me by biting a huge hole in it. I ditched the bf and I still have the cat. I guess Mori thought we'd like the wool sock. However it seems to disturb Special K who keeps asking why it's there.

Today I dropped off a box full of books at Bookbuyers, then went to the library and talked to the children's librarians. Neither of them had heard of the New Voices Award, or of Lee & Low Books. Oh, well. I wrote my cover letter today. I also wrote 800 words of The Road to Mandalay. I just wrote some random scenes. I do have the entire novel fleshed out in my head, but I've been stuck on how to make it flow. This way is much more productive.

I've decided I'll aim for 500 words a day. At that rate, I can write 10k (novel length) in 200 days.
Word count for the day: 1050
The Road to Mandalay: 2500. 97500 to go
