Apricot jamming

Last weekend C suddenly announced he had bought a box of apricot jammers.  This Sunday was the only day we could order them.  They're from Needmore Farms a lovely organic farm.  Yesterday we made several batches of apricot jam.   My parents came and helped pit and cut the apricots.  Special K did too and did a great job once she figured out what was required.

I have to say my initial reaction was groaning but as C pointed out sometimes "the role of one's partner is help you stretch to do things you wouldn't do otherwise."

Last night C fed me ice cream and apricot jam and it was delicious.  I had forgotten how supremely better homemade jam is too any store-bought even the most expensive organic kind.

I look at the rows of apricot jam sitting on our countertop and I feel happy.  Thank you C!

Mmmmm. I made peach jam once. I followed a recipe, and used waayyy too much sugar for how ripe the peaches were. They probably didn't even need sugar. It made great ice cream topping though!

We just use the recipe on the Ball powdered pectin.

I love making jam. In fact, I'm frustrated that I have a tree full of ripe cherry plums, and exactly no time to can with this week. Darn! If you wanna come over and take some plums, you'd be welcome. Back gate's always open, and the address is linked to in the PPP invite. :^)

Thanks for the invite but we have more than enough jam to last us for this year. C bought 25lb of apricots. :)

Try "village harvest"
I think this is the organization I heard about on KQED.

www.villageharvest.com is based in the santa clara valley, but they may have suggestions on similar organizations nearby.
